Caustic soda pearls dissolve quickly and cleanly, which makes them the practical choice wherever a strong alkali has to be made up on site. Supplied in moisture-resistant bags because the pearls take up water from the air readily.

Widely used in saponification, effluent neutralisation, drain and pipe cleaning formulations, and as a pH regulator in water treatment.

Always add caustic to water, never water to caustic: the reaction is strongly exothermic and can boil violently. Wear chemical splash goggles, a face shield and nitrile or neoprene gloves.

Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from acids, aluminium and zinc. Keep bags sealed; absorbed moisture causes the pearls to cake.
